The Oxford Sandy & Black pig, sometimes referred to as the “Plum Pudding or oxford Forest Pig” is one of the oldest british pig breeds. it has existed for 200-300 years. the exact origin of the breed is lost in antiquity but the original oxford sandy & black is believed to have developed some two centuries ago in oxfordshire. the oxford sandy & black or osb has reached crisis point at least twice in it’s past when numbers dropped so low that extinction was a real possibility. the breed society was formed in the late 1980’s, and now the herd book is controlled by the british pig association.

in any litter the piglets can range from all sandy to pale cream with black patches. Whilst having such a variety of colours makes the litter very attractive the only pigs that can be registered are those that meet the following breed standards: sandy (dark to light) with black blotches (not spots). Ears must be lop or semi lop and ‘prick’ ears are not acceptable. underline (number of teats) must be minimum 12 for a gilt or 14 for a boar. White tip to tail, four white feet and a white blaze is an added bonus.
