Our pigs are kept free range as much as possible, so they may exhibit natural behaviour. They are in pens in woodland giving plenty of environmental enrichment, and the opportunity to dig and forage. They are provided with pig arcs and plenty of straw for bedding. The sows are brought into pig stys with a bed area and outside yard prior to farrowing, where we can keep a close eye on them. They are provided with straw for nest making, we allow them plenty of room with bars and heat lamp at one end so the piglets are attracted to the warmth to sleep so keeping them safe.

We wean at 7-8 weeks then allow the sows plenty of time to rest and recover before going back to the boar. The piglets are soon introduced into the woodland pens in small groups of similar size to prevent bullying and allowed to grow on slowly.

We feed a sow and weaner nut ration to all our pigs. We do not use high protein feed, give antibiotics routinely or add salt to the diet to promote weight gain and water retention.

We believe this system produces happy pigs, and fantastic pork.
